INTERNATIONAL SUMMER TERM

Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences

Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences has approximately 4000 students in different fiellds of study. Two degree programmes are delivered in English, enabling students from many partner institutions to study at Mikkeli UAS throughout the year. Mikkeli UAS actively develops opportunities for student exchange, international projects and research, mainly within the European and Nordic programmes and with partners from Russia, Baltic and Asian countries. In addition to attracting students from around the world, Mikkeli UAS also invites visiting lecturers to deliver study modules, thereby enhancing the international dimension of its programmes.

Summer Term 2009 at Mikkeli UAS

International Summer Term was organized at Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences between May 11 - August 21, 2009. Totally ten study modules were organized mainly in the fields of Business and Information Technology. One of the modules was about Finnish culture and language and was primarily meant for foreign exchange students. Students also had the opportunity to study Russian for Beginners which made it easier to participate the course Marketing in Russia as one part of the course was organized in St. Petersburg.

117 students participated the summer term at Mikkeli UAS. 60 of them were exchange students and 51 Mikkeli UAS degree students. Exchange students came mainly from Russia, Germany and Hong Kong. Majority of degree students were students who are studying in Business Management -programme. Lectures for the summer term came from Mikkeli UAS partner universities from USA, China, Germany, Russia and Spain. Some of the lecturers came for the first time but for some Mikkeli was a familiar place before.

Besides the studies summer term students participated in different kind of free time activities. International Services organized trips to an amusement park Tykkimäki and some neighbouring towns like Kouvola, Jyväskylä and Savonlinna. In addition, students were taken in the middle of the forest to experience the Finnish nature. During the Finnish Culture -course the students had an opportunity to go and visit an old Finnish countryside museum, see some rock paintings and have a traditional barbeque & sauna evening.

Summer Term 2010 at Mikkeli UAS

In summer 2010 we offer 11 intensive courses mainly in the fields of Business and Information Technology. All courses will be arranged at the Main Campus in Mikkeli. They are taught intensively over a period of three weeks and the students are required to participate the lectures, held during mornings or afternoons from Monday to Friday. In addition, the students complete course work, group-based assignments and case studies. You can participate only one three-week module or spend the whole summer in Mikkeli. The language of instruction in all courses is English. A Truly International Experience

Participation the Summer Term courses provided by Mikkeli UAS is not just about improving one’s knowledge of a particular field of study. It is also about expanding one’s understanding of other cultures. Students have the opportunity to work together on course assignments, interact with lecturers from other countries, and make new friends.In addition, summertime in Finland is a memorable experience, with plenty of warm sunshine and long summer nights. Students who travel to Mikkeli may take advantage of its location to explore Finland and cities in neighbouring countries such as St. Petersburg in Russia, Tallinn in Estonia and Stockholm in Sweden.

Efist-network (Eastern Finland International Summer Term)

EFIST -network offers more than 40 different courses in the fields of Business, Engineering and Social Work. The courses are delivered in different towns in the region of Eastern Finland: Kouvola, Lappeenranta, Mikkeli, Varkaus and Kuopio. This provides a new chance to participate in courses organized by different Universitíes of Applied Sciences. So, the question is, where will YOU be between May and September?
